New Star Wars Experience Opens in Downtown Disney Today
"UPDATED (More info and photos from Scott Attula):
The entire experience end to end was approximately 20 minutes. About 10 minutes to suit up and get briefed and another 10 minutes to play. Photos were not allowed in the experience itself. However, most of what you’d want to see takes place in your glasses and can’t be photographed anyway.
What blew me away was that there were actual tactile things to touch and manipulate. If there was a button to push, I could reach out and push it. If there’s a lever to pull, you can see it and actually pull it down to cause an action. So there are real sets! There are also environmental feelings. If it’s hot, you feel the heat. You might experience steam. There are rattling effects. You’ll also feel things on your body. If you get hit or shot, you’ll feel that (in a non-painful way) on your front or back. It’s really impressive on a level that other VR experiences I’ve done haven’t felt."

Become a rebel fighter as a new ‘Star Wars’ virtual reality experience opens in Downtown Disney
"If you’ve ever wanted to actually find yourself inside a “Star Wars” movie, you just might be in luck. A new attraction that opened Friday at Downtown Disney in Anaheim thrusts the visitor into a spaceship, then onto a new planet populated by bad guys that you have to shoot to escape.
Dubbed “The Void: Star Wars Secrets of the Empire,” the attraction boasts a new type of immersive technology that turns users into rebel fighters disguised as storm troopers, as they walk through environments that look, sound, feel and even smell real."

Anaheim’s GardenWalk mall on the market again
"About 10 years after it opened and five years after a bankruptcy-related sale, the GardenWalk mall in Anaheim – less than a block from Disneyland – is again on the market.
Real estate broker CBRE is seeking a buyer’s best offer for the 455,343-square-foot center, which features restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, according to the broker’s website.
GardenWalk has struggled since opening during the economic downturn, but real estate management firm Arcturus Group has boosted occupancy and reshuffled the tenant mix to add more restaurants and entertainment. A relocated House of Blues opened there earlier this year, and construction began in November on a J.W. Marriott, one of two luxury hotels planned for the center."

Disney hotels eliminate ‘Do not disturb’ signs after Las Vegas massacre
"You won’t find any “Do not disturb” signs hanging on doors at the three Disneyland hotels anymore, because they’ve been replaced with new door hangers.
Guests can still put a “Room occupied” sign on their doors to let employees know someone’s inside, but they can’t insist on not being disturbed. In fact, if housekeepers can’t get in to clean a room, a new policy demands that a specially trained hotel employee knock on the door and go inside, to make sure everything is kosher."

Disneyland Resort Update and the Discounts of Doom
"Today’s Disneyland update was going to be about huge crowds this past holiday season. But given Disneyland’s announcement yesterday, it’s now going to be mostly about massive crowds coming later this winter and spring as a new round of resident discount tickets have been released. This time around, you can get 2 or 3 day tickets at heavily reduced prices (you pay extra for the parkhopper option). So, why the apocalyptic headline? Because these discounts turn an otherwise less attended season of the year into a mess of clogged walkways, extra long lines at the turnstiles (as ticket takers process new passes and take photos for tens of thousands of discount ticket holders), and extra long lines at the rides. After the mess last year, many thought that Disney would dial the program back or not offer it at all.
We also have photos from around the park and say so long to Christmastime."

Disneyland Resort Update – Farewell to Paradise
"The winds of change are blowing once again at the Disneyland Resort. Disney California Adventure was packed with guests this past weekend. And while many of them were there to use up the last bits of credit on their Festival of Holidays tasting cards, most were there to say farewell to one of California Adventure’s surviving opening day lands, Paradise Pier."
